Legislature Moves to Block Large Gravel Mine

"With support from the Senate’s Democratic leadership, state Sen. Erik Poulsen (D-West Seattle) on Monday introduced three bills that could make Glacier Northwest’s massive expansion of its mine on Maury Island difficult to impossible. State Rep. Joe McDermott (D-West Seattle) said Monday he and Rep. Eileen Cody (D-West Seattle) are close to introducing the same bills in the House. All three bills, were they to pass, would place significant roadblocks in Glacier’s way.
